TURCK'S REMOTE I/O SYSTEM FOR USE IN HAZARDOUS AREAS
Indonesia based Swiss chemical producer selects TURCK hazardous area I/O solution for plant expansion

Singapore, April 08, 2009

Excom®, TURCK’s remote I/O system for use in hazardous areas, was chosen by major chemical producer for the expansion of their plant facilities near Jakarta.

Excom® is the most advanced remote-I/O system for hazardous area use available in the market today. Since the introduction of the first generation back in 2003, over 2000 installations have been equipped with Excom®.

Significant equipment and installation savings supported by adequate services made the TURCK Excom® platform the preferred choice for this project.

The unique 230VAC and 24 VDC double redundant power supply concept not only provided maximum availability but also allowed longer distance for powering the system. This way, the system could be mounted close to the field equipment using standard small diameter power cable, thus maximizing cost reduction on planning, wiring and installation. PROFIBUS PNO Slave Redundancy DP V1.2 standard was followed for the redundant bus communication back to the host, enabling easy integration of other field devices following this standard without additional engineering effort.

PROFIBUS certified engineers from TURCK trained and assisted local contractors on site for the installation and commissioning to assure the quality of the solution. Advanced tracing tools were used to diagnose and validate PROFIBUS bus communication.

This project is good evidence again of the quality and expertise within the TURCK Singapore and local partner PT Control Systems. Our know-how, services and long term experience with open industry standards like PROFIBUS provided the supportive structure our customers were expecting from us, says Henk Schaake, Managing Director for TURCK Singapore Pte Ltd. PT Control Systems meanwhile continued working with the customer to optimize on operational aspects.

From an operations point of view, full intrinsic safety of the I/O and communication of the system allow life maintenance. The HART over Profibus support and powerful modular FDT-DTM functionality of the system support parameterization and diagnostics for all field equipment and instrumentation directly from the supervisory platform, enabling true asset management to maximize performance and availability.
